End youth homelessness – support our Santas
Why did 14 Profusion employees run around the middle of London in the dark, wearing Santa suits?
It sounds like a joke in a Christmas cracker. But the definitely-not-funny ‘punchline’ is this: Because 22,000 young people will be homeless in the capital this Christmas.
Why do young people become homeless?
You might wonder: Why don’t young people just continue living with their parents while they work and save money to rent or buy a place?
Put simply, not everyone has that option. Most homeless under-25s are fleeing abuse, neglect or irrevocable conflict in the family home. For them, the streets, night buses or people’s sofas are a better option than the places they had to leave. Or the only option.
Profusion campaign manager Svjat Osipenko, who joined the Santa run, said: ‘It was an exciting thing to do, for a great cause and a sense of community. Around 103,000 young people across the UK are without a home right now because of difficult situations they are in. The money raised for End Youth Homelessness provides safe places for them that they deserve.”
